More Screen Shots of Acrostic.Exe Program

You just type in your Answer words, or you search through a word list (e.g. "movies.txt"), or you can do a dictionary scan. The program will find all the words or phrases that can be made from the remaining letters in the quotation. Then you type in your clues.

The program gives you a readout of information that you need to find a final fit, like percentage of vowels remaining (try to keep above 35%).  You can see the remaining characters, sorted by their frequency in the English language. You try to use the more "rare" characters first.

Just double-click on a row to search through the Dictionary. (I used "Moby Dictionary" broken into 26 files). Right-click after clicking on a row, and you can scan with conditions, specifying characters you want to get rid of early.

The first letters of the Answer words  color coded according to the statistical "most-common-starting-letter" of the English language. Red means a rare first starting char, so they are harder to fill: do them first!

At the bottom is an important read-out: the "problem chars" remaining. These are simply the least-common-third of the alphabet. You want to get rid of these as soon as possible.

The quotes button will let you edit your file of quotations. You can save the puzzle and load it up later. You can save the puzzle as a text file and send it to someone in email! You can make custom puzzles for friends and family.

The print-out routines are still crude and unfinished. If you want to be notified when the full version is done, just email me : prema@prahlad.org.
